MICROBLADING

If you’re looking for beautiful low-maintenance brows, microblading might be your answer. Here are some of the benefits of micro bladed brows:

  • Full, even brows
  • more natural look compared to makeup
  • sweat and waterproof brows
  • camouflage scars or sparse areas
  • semi-permanent which allows you to change your brow style if you want or as beauty trends change

What is Microblading?

Semi-permanent tattoo using a fine blade and pigment that creates hair-like strokes in the top layer of the skin (upper layer of the dermis). The result leaves you with full, or natural looking brows that will enhance your natural face shape.

This technique of implanting pigment into the skin dates back thousands of years. The reason it is semi permanent is because the pigment is deposited into the upper layer of the dermis (rather than the subcutaneous fat layer where tattoo ink and needle go). In the upper layer of the dermis, sweating, and skin-cell turnover will eventually push the pigment out between 8 months-2 years.

THE PROCESS

Pre-appointment

For best results please read the following information before your appointment.

  • Do not use any products that thins the skin 3 weeks prior to your appointment. This includes vitamin c, retinol, ingredients such as AHA, BHA and natural exfoliators.
  • Do not have any caffeine, alcohol or blood thinners such as ibuprofen 48 hours before your procedure to prevent excess bleeding
  • Avoid sun tanning and salon tanning one month before and after your procedure. If you show up with a new tan or burn to the appointment you will need to re-schedule and will forfeit your deposit. When your skin exfoliates from the sun exposure, it takes the pigment with it.
  • If you would like to tint, wax, thread/shape your brows beforehand, please do so 1 week in advance
  • If you have botox and/or fillers it should be done two weeks in advance.

PRE-CONSULTATION

Phone conversation (15 min) - This is optional but is a great way to go over any questions or concerns around microblading. We also go through the waiver forms and after care so you know what to expect.

Appointment Day

Filling out waiver forms (15 min)

Brow design and mapping (30 min)

Please bring photo's of micro bladed brows that you like. This will give us a starting point for style of brows. As artists we work with you face shape to design brows that will naturally enhance your facial features. After this we choose a pigment colour that best suites your colouring.

Numbing (30 min)

A numbing cream is applied to the procedure area to take away the edge. Some people feel nothing at all, some feel a little bit. Numbing cream is continually applied throughout the procedure to provide the most comfort possible.

Microblading (60-90min)

The artist will manually draw individual, crisp and fine hair strokes superficially in the upper region of the dermis (skin) using a small fine blade. These hair strokes will be made within the brow design created for the client. The hair strokes mimic the appliance of real hair which can look very beautiful and natural.

After Care (6-8 weeks)

It takes 6-8 weeks before the brows are completely healed but they will appear healed after the first 9 days. Please see our Aftercare page here. Directly after the procedure your brows may experience some normal but mild side effects. The brow area will feel tight and slightly red and itchy. Some compare the feeling to a sunburn.

What is Microblading?

Semi-permanent tattoo using a fine blade and pigment that creates hair-like strokes in the top layer of the skin (upper layer of the dermis).

What other names does microblading go by?

Eyebrow embroidery, micro-stroking, feather touch, feather brows

Is this a new trend?

The technique of implanting pigment into fine incisions in the skin dates back thousands of years. Over the years people have come up with more advanced, and refined techniques to make the hair strokes look as real as possible.

How long does it last?

6 months to 2 years.

Why is there such a range in retention?

Everyone has different skin types. Typically the pigment will be pushed out or broken down faster in oily skin types, young skin (skin cell turnover is faster), while dryer/normal skin will retain the pigment longer. Lifestyle effects retention as well. Excessive sweating, suntanning and chemical peels will lift the pigment faster.

Why isn’t it permanent?

There are three layers to the skin that are important to microblading. First being the epidermis, underneath this is the dermis and then the subcutaneous fat layer. Traditional tattooing goes into the fat layer where it becomes permanent. Microblading is deposited just into the upper layer of the dermis. The dermis is where sweat and oil is produced and thus the pigment will eventually be pushed out of the skin.

Will it hurt?

A numbing cream is applied to the procedure area to take away the edge. Some people feel nothing at all, some feel a little bit. Numbing cream is continually applied throughout the procedure to provide the most comfort possible.

How long will it take?

The initial appointment is 2.5-3 hours. Most of this is filling out forms, numbing the area and then mapping the area. I will not be microblading this whole time. For the actual procedure it usually takes up to 40 min per side. The touch up is around 2 hours.

When do I need a touch-up?

Your first touch-up is 4-8 weeks after your initial appointment. Once your brows have completley healed from the initial appointment, we go in and perfect them. This touch up will go over any areas that may not have taken, we may add more hairs to the overall brow or lengthen hairs to make the brows bolder. A touch-up is almost always necessary and depending on the skin type and brows there may be more than one touch-up needed.

Once my first initial appointment and touch-up is done, will I have to continue to get them touched up?

Yes. After your first two appointments you may need to come in for a touch up or full initial appointment 6 months-2 years after. You will need to come in for a consultation to decide wether just touch up is needed or a full initial appoinemnt. This will depend on how much microblading is left on your eyebrows and will be decided on by the artist.

What colour will you choose for my brows?

This is a decision I make during our consultation. We swatch a few options on your forehead to see it next to your skin, brows and hair colour. There are many different pigments to choose from and I match it to my clients natural hair or to their preference.

I already have micro bladed/shaded/tatooed eyebrows but would like a touch-up. Do you do this?

Sometimes. I need to see your brows in person to assess if I can work on them. I prefer the old brows to be mostly faded away. If they aren’t faded enough I may choose not to work on them or would recommend getting them lasered so we are working with a clean canvas. If we do go ahead overtop ofold tattooing or microblading, we can only go bigger and bolder and this would be considered a cover-up. These can take multiple appointments to achieve desired results and even then, there is no guarantee because the skin area is already saturated with pigment and even more unpredictable to work with.

Are you certified?

Yes! I am certified Microblading Technician through 'Artista Brows by Micha Microblading Training' and I have my Blood Born Pathogen Certification through WorkSafe.
